Startup Scene

Located only 80 miles south of Austin, San Antonio has taken advantage of its proximity to Austin’s robust startup community. The city has ramped up its entrepreneurial and venture capital activity by creating a collaborative environment to support entrepreneurs in their journey. The local startup scene also benefits from resources and talent from Rackspace’s headquarters in the region— including Geekdom spawning from that and creating it’s own growing community. A popular industry for the region is cyber security, and a growing sector is in biotech.

Venture Community

San Antonio has seen significant growth in startup funding with the presence of venture capital firms and angel networks such as Active Capital, Capital Factory, MGV Capital, HOLT Ventures, and Alamo Angels. Non-profits and other organizations planning programming like Launch SA (now operated by Geekdom), Tech Bloc, and Velocity TX also offer a valuable ecosystem of startup support.

Business Environment

Home to more than 400 headquarter operations, San Antonio boasts some of the largest regional headquarters including: USAA, H-E-B, Valero, Whataburger, and Rackspace and Holt Cat Corporation.

Culture

There is a vibrant, dynamic community where Hispanic heritage and historic culture come to life. Residents love to celebrate the city’s rich heritage and confluence of cultures with festivities like signature Fiesta San Antonio the San Antonio Rodeo. Art, food (especially tex-mex) and culture also play an important role with attractions like the Alamo, River Walk, and The Pearl.

Way of Life

San Antonio has all the amenities that big cities have to offer with the casual and friendly atmosphere of a small town. Compared to its big city neighbors in Texas, San Antonio offers a lower cost of living with many great neighborhoods to raise a family. San Antonio is also referred to as “Military City” because it is home to the largest group of military bases.

Our members share a common goal to support regional pages by keeping them updated living documents. Help tell the story of the city by joining to contribute content.
